Job opening at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Politechnika Wrocławska, PWR), Chair of Semiconductor Materials Engineering

PhD positions (ESR) - summary

For the EU-funded MSCA-ITN-2020 project entitled "Developing optoelectronics in two-dimensional semiconductors" (project acronym "2Exciting"), the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Politechnika Wrocławska, PWR), the Chair of Semiconductor Materials Engineering, offers 1 position as Early Stage Researcher / PhD student starting indicatively on 1st of April, 2021 for 36 months, with earlier or later start negotiable.

The project is funded by the MARIE SKŁODOWSKA CURIE Innovative Training Network (ITN) within the Horizon 2020 Programme of the European Commission. General information about the openings of the ITN 2Exciting can be found here.

The work will be carried out in the research group of Prof. Robert Kudrawiec at PWR. Please feel welcome to contact robert.kudrawiec (at) pwr.edu.pl for further information. The ESR will be enrolled in the PhD programme at PWR.

Job Position

The Early Stage Researcher (ESR) will work on the optical spectroscopy (photoreflectance and photoluminescence) of van der Waals heterostructures under the influence of hydrostatic pressures and axial deformations. The aim of this research will be to experimentally determine the pressure coefficients for optical transitions (deformation potentials of the electron band structure) and to compare them with the theoretical predictions obtained by colleagues in the network. External deformations of van der Waals heterostructures will also be used to identify the nature of optical transitions observed in emission-like and absorption-like experiments. Moreover, local deformations, point defects or other imperfections are expected to lead to non-radiative recombination and local potential fluctuations that may localize excitons. These issues will also be the subject of research in this project.

Job Requirements:

We Offer:

Please submit your complete application until 15.04.2021 including a motivation letter, CV, publication list (if applicable) and two reference letters preferentially electronically as single pdf file to robert.kudrawiec (at) pwr.edu.pl or as a regular letter (addressed to Prof. Robert Kudrawiec, Politechnika Wrocławska, Wybrzeże Wyspiańskiego 27, 50-370 Wroclaw, Poland, stamped arrival date applies). Sent documents will not be returned to you. Interviews will be carried out preferentially using video conferences. Expenses incurred in attending interviews cannot be reimbursed.
